day dreamer

I like to stare into the windows of houses with the drapes drawn open. Trying to get a quick glimpse of the interior, I wonder, who's in there now? Are they in their underwear? What are they doing at this very moment? What would it be like if I lived there? How would I decorate it? I play this silly game every time I take vinny for walks or if I'm riding shotgun, be it in Hawaii or traveling anywhere else. It's fun to imagine your life differently every now & then and even more fun to be nosy about the private lives of strangers.

Anyway today, I went to my cousin's high school graduation dinner. I wore this Gypsy dress which I absolutely love because it feels like I'm wearing the sunset.

the sun goes down at 1900

I probably already said this, but my favorite time of day is late afternoon around 4pm, when the sun has the warmest glow and everything looks like it's in sepia. I have fond memories of my mom giving be a bath around this time when I was little and I remember the innocent smell of Johnson & Johnson "no tears" baby shampoo. So I especially love it when the sun goes down later during the summer. It perpetuates all these nostalgic memories.

Oh! And meet Miss Luella Barkley. She's so itty bitty, she's smaller that my Jessica Simpson platforms. Either that or these platforms are ridiculously chunky........ um, yah, they're pretty, ridiculously chunky. Thanks to Rumi of fashiontoast, I was compelled to buy these monster truck shoes despite the injury risk level. These babies put me at Shane's chin level (he's not so itty bitty). If you're looking for these killer platforms, Laurie told me that Shopnastygal will be carrying them soon, but there made by Jeffrey Campbell.
Vinny says "Look ma! I'm itty bitty too!!!"

cardigan (ross), lace tee (bsky), skirt (ross), shoes (jessica simpson), necklace (f21)

Speaking of perpetuating "sentiment", I wonder if I should hang on the these shoes for my daughter. I get so mad every time my mom tells me, "Oh, you like _______ ? I had 50 of them when I was your age" Well geez! It sure would be nice to have 50 pairs of truely vintage platforms!!!!

.... And in case you wondering about the other super rad necklace hanging on the rack, it'll be available during our sale this weekend. Obviously, we called it the "Palermo necklace!!!"

Qui est cette fille?

Les filles sont jolies
C'est évident
Et moi je le suis
Juste de temps en temps

Les filles sont jolies
Et épanouies
Moi j'essaierais
Tant que je serais en vie

Qui est cette fille dont tu rêves tant ?
Qui est cette fille dont tu es l'amant ?
Qui est cette fille qui porte mes vêtements ?
Mais qui est-elle ?
Elle porte mes vêtements

Love this song, though it doesn't apply to me because I already nabbed my dream guy. I just like to listen to it and pretend I'm a hopeless French romantic. You should hear my butchered version of it when I attempt to sing it. Pitiful..... nauseating actually.

romper (uo, sale rack chee doggie!), bra (uo), shoes (aldo), socks (juicy couture), headband (target)

I wouldn't leave you hanging without a translation : )

The girls are pretty,
it's evident.
And I am that
only now and then.

The girls are pretty,
and beaming
I would try
as long as I'm alive.

...Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
...Who is that girl whose lover you are?

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
Who is that girl who wears my clothes?

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
But who is she?
She wears my clothes.

These girls don't say no,
but "why not?"
They love the guys,
specially you.

The girls are sexy
when they talk to you,
And when I am,
you never see me.

...Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
...Who is that girl whose lover you are?

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
Who is that girl who wears my clothes?

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
But who is she?
She wears my clothes.

Let's play a little game you don't know.
You'll be the girl and I will be you.
If now the rules are inverted,
is it ok?
Do you still want to play with me? wi-wi-with me

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
Who is that girl who wears my clothes?

Who is that girl that you dream of so much?
Who is that girl whose lover you are?
But who is she?
She wears my clothes.

No time to blog nowadays... I have so many outfits to play around with, lots with tags still attached :( . . . . In the mean time, here's some other pics you can check out of our new arrivals at Bamboo Sky. I'm crazy in love with the new line from Korea that we just got in called JaneHow. Go here for pictures everything I just brought back from LA : )

mother's day

Mom and I spent Mother's day doing what we do best.... bargain hunting at Ross! We love this store full of hidden treasures. While I can't help wasting money on designer duds, I'm also a sucker for a good deal and Ross is just the place to satisfy this appetite. Not everything in Ross is a hit though, it's usually a miss, but occasionally you find things that you can't live without (perhaps) and the best part is that it was only $9.99!!! The thrill of the hunt is absolutely addicting. And I must add, that their home section is pretty rad.

So yesterday, all the pieces I got were no smaller than an XL from the missy "department". Sometimes you just have to give things a try and it works out surprisingly well.
This crochet cardigan is a size XL. I just removed the button and turned it into an oversized wrap sweater. I was thinking I could also use the skull broach from my previous blog to fasten it shut at the bottom so it would have sort of a cocoon shape. I'm wearing it over a James Perse tank, & f21 shorts with jeffrey campbell platform clogs & a beaded head band from Target.
Here's a missy 2XL shirt, which I suppose should be a fitted top, but works out perfectly as a oversized mini tunic for me. The husband can't stand this one, claiming that it looks like some thing I could find in Chinatown market between the bamboo dim sum pots and canvas slippers, next to the lycee envelops. Oddly enough, that's what I like about it.... the old lady-ness of it. I'm wearing it with a head band from Target and jeffrey campbell platform clogs.
This "find" is from the swim section. It's a 2xL swim cover up, that works out to be a lovely duster. I adore the oversized, fall-off-your-shoulder drape. I felt the urge to try this season's "disheveled bun on top of your head" look. I'm wearing it over a Clu tunic with a necklace from Target and Steve Madden blue suede shoes.

As much as I would die for fashion and all the artistry behind it, personally I don't see the point in trying to start a new revolution. I'm not a designer, I'm not a stylist, I'm not an artist, I'm not a photographer. I'm a shopper and I love playing dress up. Period. And I blog about my passion because it's a nice way of cataloging the best years of my life while I still can. A journal of my life at play, at work and in love. One day I will show this to my children and say, "See, mama was a cool cat"! To which they will probably just roll their eyes.

So, I'm not trying to make waves in this vast blogosphere of immense talents and style. I just like to ride the wakes of the "gutsy" ones doing cannon balls in the deep end of the pool. Occasionally, making a small splash here and there at the 4ft mark. It's all just fun for me. So here's me, having fun on this 4th day of May in the year 2010!

Saturday May 1st: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

Yes, it's all about me. Get used to it.
Hey, I get to be a brat two times a year, my birthday and Christmas...

Dinner at Tavola Tavola

BFF's since the time she thought she could stroll into "MY" dance class and take center. I thought to my sassy, 9 year old self, "What the heck? This girl's got some nerve..... I kind of like it!" The rest is history

Missing the rest, but I couldn't be blessed with a better team. sigh*

I have sick dance moves. Pretty much the best I know.

dress (james purse), bra (Alexander Wang), shoes (prada) earrings (f21), belt (uo), necklace (gift from kelli, thanks!), jade bracelets (from the deep, dark abyss of my bangles collection), rings (le grand marquet & f21)
