leaving on a jet plane

Getting back to some good ole' fashion. I'm leaving again on another buying trip. This time for 7 days!!! We're spending the weekend in SD with Shane's family who I miss so much, especially my little Ella. I can't wait to give her her birthday present! I thought I'd go back to packing light, after totally overpacking for my previous trips to Japan and Las Vegas. I managed to fit 7 days worth of outfits into one little carry on. Of course, I had to origami fold somethings to make them fit : )

After playing around with a few different options, here's how I narrowed it down. Also, I think that investing in a good silky like cardigan or button up (that can act as a cardigan) is wise. It can add so much more dimension and versatility to your wardrobe.

On the plane:
vince silk button up worn as cardigan
uo geo stripe tunic tank
uo skinny jeans
sam edelman mules

Day 1:
re-use vince button up
a wang tank
uo leather shorts
bsky skinny belt
re-use sam edelman mules
Night 1 (if we even have the energy to hit up some bars):
re-use uo leather shorts
thrifted silk burnout cardigan (worn as blouse)
vegas pumps
Day 2:
re-use thrifted cardigan
re-use uo jeans
james perse tank
re-use sam edelman mules

or….. if it's too hot for jeans:
re-use thrifted cardigan
james perse tank
blank NYC cut off shorts
Day 3:
re-use vince blouse
re-use Blank NYC shorts
uo leopard booties
Day 4 (first day in SD which means lots of food, which means wear elastic pants):
ross cardigan
re-use james perse tank
uo ELASTIC waist skort
bsky belt

After dinner, remove belt, untuck tank and stick hand in waistband for relief
Day 5:
re-use ross cardigan
uo romper
re-use bsky belt
re-use uo leopard booties
Day 6:
re-use uo tunic tank
siwy camilla cut off shorts
re-use bsky belt
re-use sam edelman mules
Day 7:
I can pretty much re-wear any combination of things for the plane ride home.
1. a. wang tank + uo leopard skort + ross cardigan
2. vince blouse tied up + uo leopard skort
3. uo skinny jean + a. wang tank + vince blouse
you get the picture!

Also wanted to show you another way I can wear this fab thrift find in case we get a wild hair up our butts to hit up Gas Lamp on the weekend!!!
I just took this old skull broach and cinched the waist to create a kimono like dress

All this, plus a swim suit, flip flops, undies, my make-up bag, curling iron and accessories fit into 1 little carry on!!!

my heart aches

Hello friends,

It's been brought to my attention that my last post has offended some people. I would like to sincerely apologize for not thinking about how it would affect others. I do, however, want to explain myself. I was not poking fun of the fact that she was homeless, I only captured that picture because it was someone that fell asleep while eating. But, now that I have just stated that, I can understand how it would seem that I was being condescending. I am deeply sorry for offending anyone. That was not my intention.

So, I feel a great deal of uneasiness because I have never thought of myself as higher than anyone person. I always thought of myself as a generous person and I try to live my life morally correct. But, now I feel that I must be oblivious which angers me internally. Am I a bad person? Do I take for granted the things I have? Should I laugh when I watch comedians make politically incorrect remarks? Where do I draw the line?

I initially started my blog to express my fashion obsessions and then it turned into a sort of journal for me, putting my life and love out there for people to see, read, laugh at, agree with, disagree with and relate to. All things positive and happy. Now, I feel utterly disheartened and sad that I have affected people in a negative way.

Again, I am so sorry for any negative feelings I may have aroused.

Sincerely,
Tiffany

would you like to get a fitting room started?

Hmmm… Where to begin? Lots of little things happened this weekend, but it's the little things that puts a jolly grin on your face like a sip of wine on an empty stomach, right?

Friday night was spent going to a late dinner with the newly weds at Himalayan Kitchen. I'm not an exotic foodie type person. A simple meal of chick Mc nuggs will do just fine but I do love all the unique flavors here! In addition to the a side of takana I was hankering last week, I also had an insatiable craving for Himalayan Kitchen's Chicken Tikka Masala. Both cravings satisfied!

Saturday was spent being a lazy fatso. When I don't have to put any make-up on, I like to roam around the house in my undies, and stuff my face with random snacks (this includes nori, gummy candy, oat cakes, hard boiled eggs, string cheese and spoonfuls of peanut butter). Does any one else also open the fridge 5 times in 1 hour hoping that something new will just magically appear? Oh, but I did manage to check out Clothes Chick on Kapahulu. Stay tuned for a blog about my super awesome find!

Sunday, I made Shane hang out with me all day! He's always ditching me for surf, so I made him promise me that I get him at least until 4pm. In order for my "Shane and Tiff's Day of Fun!!!" plan to work, I had to make sure he was well fed. So off to Chinatown we go, for dim sum at Mei Sum.

The b"Excuse me, where might one find your Pooh Bear figurines and perhaps last week's newspaper?"

Next, we headed to Walmart for some stuff and to find Ella (our 7 year old niece) a birthday present. I grabbed this pretty rad Hello Kitty bike basket, but had a feeling I should call her mom first to make sure. To my extreme, EXTREME excitement Lisa tells me she's into clothes now! I threw that hello kitty basket down like it was last era's low rise bootleg jean and dragged Shane to Nordstrom.

Wait, this gets good. So I'm perusing the racks for some 80's style cut off shorts (I hear the 80's is all the rage for kiddos now, thanks Lisa!) I have a few in my hand, girl's size 8/10, and then a very sweet sales girl comes up to me asks if I would like to get a fitting room started?!@#!!@#@!!!!! I was baffled to say the least! "These can barely fit on my one thigh," I thought to myself. As soon as she left, I burst into teary , uncontrollable laughter because I was so embarrassed! And I wasn't embarrassed for her, but for myself. I some way, deep down inside, I know that I don't dress my age (but then again I also don't act my age so whatever!).

"Do I really look like I shop in the kid's department?" I asked Shane.
He said, "Well you ARE wearing shorts that look like those."
FML!!!!

FRIDAY:
vest (le grand marquet), tunic dress (uo), bag (bebe), shoes (sam edelman)
SUNDAY:
tank (bsky), shorts (blank NYC), bra (hanky panky), belts (oldie but goodies), necklace, headband, silver cuff (f21), gold cuff (banana republic)

you look like a dream

We have this creepy, dilapidated house on our corner. It was on the market last year and I soooooooooo badly wanted to buy it. It's huge property with lots of land a there sits a neglected, yet charming little house that I've always had a fascination with. Sadly for me, we're not millionares (not yet anyway, hehehe).

I'm not sure if I wrote about this before, but I LooOVE old houses with cool attics, angular roofs, wood framed windows, peeling paint and porches with rocking chairs. Of course, inside I would make everything modern. . . equipped with an updated closet-room, gourmet kitchen, travertine and wood floors, a Bose surround sound system, etc, etc. But, I would want the outside to look inconspicuous and unsuspecting. This would be ONE OF my dream homes. I'll also take a tricked out loft in NYC and a Spanish villa in the Hollywood Hills.

Anyway, this morning I check in on Shane doing p90x before I headed out the door. He tells me, "Wow, you look like a dream". I don't know about me, but I think he looks pretty dreamy!!!

Oh, and check out my new shoes!!! A gift from Linh to all her bridesmaids!!!! I die, right?! I'll just say that it has a red sole and rhymes with mouboutin.

silk scarf dress (f21), headband (target), skinny braid belt (le grand marquet)

yesterday

Have you ever had days where your fingers feel like they weigh 10lbs each and it takes every ounce of escaping energy to lift your make-up brushes to your face? Well, that was me yesterday. I am sooooooooooooo over putting on make-up everyday. I wish I had it easy like the flowers Shane picked for me (I know, awww! how sweet!) Beautiful and fresh and alive without any effort what so ever. I swear, sometimes when I get home from work it takes me 20 minutes to remove all the crap I put on.
unzip,
unsnap,
unbutton,
twist off,
untie,
unbuckle,
let down,
pull off
I mean sheesh, it's like removing armor!
So, I didn't feel like taking pictures of outfits. But here's some other random stuff.

Hand picked by my husband : ) Hibiscus.
Papayas. Also hand picked by my husband, who unlike me was not being defied by gravity and had the energy to pick the fresh fruit off our tree.
And a cool praying mantis

A park is no place for white jeans

I had in mind to do some photos of today's outfit playing with aperture, where the focus is in the foreground and the background is blurry. BuuUUut, I learned that it's impossible to do it with self-timer (Shane was surfing). And lemme tell ya . . . . it's no fun running back and forth in a semi-muddied park in white jeans & JC's Mariels, in 80 degree weather (plus humidity), with a tripod and a dog, all while being careful not to wake the sleeping transients over yonder.

Anywho, this morning we filmed another set of fashion tips for OC16 Hawaii In Style. I hope it turns out ok. I'm always so nervous to give fashion tips without sounding like a little miss know-it-all because really, I believe that fashion is boundless, there are NO rules!!! I guess my job (as a boutique owner) is just to bring in what ever I think is cute and if people like it, they like it. If not, then I take no offense. None what so ever.

By now, I've probably proven that I, myself am a serious shop-a-holic with no biases!!!! Hahaha! I swear I must frequent other local boutiques on a weekly basis and I NEVER leave without finding something different that I don't have at Bamboo Sky. Prime example…. these super duper awesome cream colored skinny jeans I got from Le Grand Marquet. The best part is, they were only 15 buck-a-roo's!!!
So here's today's outfit (sorry some pics are totally out of focus)...

beaded net tank (oldie but goodie, which reminds me, I also have this in a dress version with tassels!!!), under tank (james perse), jeans (le grand marquet), shoes (jeffrey campbell), bag (nine west), cross necklace (bsky), cuff & rings (f21)

Other random jibberish:
I kind of like that "143" song my Ray Jay, please don't judge me
In addition to loose braids, I like random mini braids
I'm craving Angelo Pietro's with a huge side of takana

July 19, 2010

If I were riding a horse I'd wear a flannel, but I'm going to the disco so I wear chanel.

That's what my tank says except I wish I really were going to a disco. Just working in a Brandy Melville tank, Vince silk blouse, LeGrand Marquet shorts and Sam Edelman studded mules

love is patient, love is kind

This past Saturday was Linh and Roger's wedding. To say that it was gorgeous is a serious understatement. Let's try magnificent. . . exquisite. . . opulent. . . elegant. . . divine. I didn't take too many photos and some were just from my point & shoot, but here's a small selection of some of the moments I caught of one of my bestie's big day! Hope you enjoy.
