if it wasn't for the last minute….

An excellent dinner with close friends is exactly what I needed to whisk me away from reality for just 1 hour (thank you linh & roger) I've seriously been living on bags of doritos and gummi candies. Hectic days like these with deadlines remind me too much of college all-nighters. I loathe those days. But, as my husband so cleverly reminded me, "If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done". When he stated that, it was like everything made sense. There's a reason why my shipments are not coming in on time. There's a reason why my office is in terrible disarray. There's a reason why 24 hours just isn't enough. It's because everything will miraculously complete itself in the final hour. I'll sleep well tonight, based on that theory… and on a tummy full of izakaya Gaku! Goodnight!

ps- I'm wearing somethings from shop.bamboosky.com!!!! T-minus 4 days!
pps- the funny thing about high rise jeans is the amount off time it takes me to zip 'em up. normally it's like a "zut", now it's like "zzzzzzzzzzzzzut"

on me: blouse (janehow, shop.bamboosky.com), beanie (shop.bamboosky.com), high rise cig jeans (uo) boots (deena & ozzy, uo), bag (random LA find)

on linh: top (mink pink, bamboo sky), skort (audrey, bamboo sky), necklace (ginger 13, bamboo sky) shoes (michael kors)

drive by blogging

Again no time to write something profound or anything that requires serious thought. Just some random things today as I quickly check in for my blog fix …

- I'm in desperate need of some personal QT (I have a 2 month old pedicure and my hair looks like weeds)
- I miss 9 hours of sleep.
- I love these tights (the BF has these too!) but they turned the shoes that I loved more, blue!!!!!!!! Ugghhhh!
- T minus 7 days till launch off
- Vinny loves pretty ladies. But then again that's nothing new.

On the corner of Melrose and Fairfax...

there exists a heaven within heaven. Impossible you say, but I beg to differ. On Sunday, we went to the Fairfax Trading Post. I had been to this awesome, little fair a few times when I lived in LA and absolutely missed it since I moved home. And my, oh my has it grown. It used to be confined just the corner parking lot of Fairfax High School, but now spills over into 2 more new “wings” with aisles and aisles of glorious vintage knick knacks, jewelry, beads, artwork, furniture, clothes, etc, etc.

Shane and I drooled over all the cool antique armoires, frames and doo dads. I was soooooo inspired to redecorate the store, or maybe just open up another one so I can have a new place to “do-up”. Hahaha. Why doesn’t Hawaii have anything like this? And for cheap please? If anyone out there knows, please share!!

Whoopsie, I forgot to bring my cash. Thanks zazzee!

Amongest the "sea of shoes" . . . .
. . . I spy a rad pair of woven oxfords. Mine.

I fell in love with one particular booth that had all these beautiful petticoats in soft sherberty colors. They dangled and swayed in the wind like a dream. I wish I could have shot a bamboo sky fashion photo shoot here or just moved in a bed and stove and lived there.

My face all day long. For real!

This sign is pure genius
True story! Terence spocked my sweater's long lost sister in one of the racks. I said, "If it has a Contempo label, I will die!" Ok, so I didn't die, but holy crap it WAS Contempo!!! Some girl who tossed it back in the early 90's doesn't know what she gave up. I think my sweater realized how much she was loved and cherished today.

I'm stoked on my purchases! I got the woven oxfords, sterling silver & turq earrings, an oscar de la renta silk scarf, and a beaded mesh cardigan.

Overall, this weekends thrifting adventure has made me realize how much “stuff” we, as a cognitional, intelligent species, have created subsequently instilling a senseless desire and “need” for the newest, the latest, and greatest. All the while shoving aside the “old” and letting it go to waste. If only we could be satisfied with second had things more often. At least some of the time anyway. Trust me, I know I have a sickness that contributes to waste, so I’m not trying to be hypocritical by saying this, but not only is thrifting good for your pocket, but it’s good for the earth.

nifty thrifty

This trip, I was fortunate enough to have some spare time to revisit some of my most missed shopping spots in LA. I’ll start with Saturday afternoon…

Of course, one of them included a quick stop to the Beverly Center, specifically to the Forever 21 Accessories store. Yes, I'm aware that we have an F21 in Hawaii, but NOTHING like this mecca of dangling baubles, fancy footwear, rings, things and other bling evilly shimmering in convincing ways. Before you know it, you're at the check out blowing your week's allowance. You may not eat this week, but hey, that necklace sure does look nice draped across your emaciated collar bones. Need I say more?

Next, was may favorite part of Saturday. You’ll understand why in a second. Terence and Jason accompanied me to Melrose to check out S.L.O.W and Wasteland. I know these spots may not be the most secret, most underground vintage thrift shops around, but how can you go wrong with a $5 yard sale!!!!! I mean forget being a pretentious, vintage snob, it’s really just about being thrifty right? I died and went to heaven. I could have been there sifting through the racks for 24 hours straight. No food. No bathroom break. Just sifting… sifting, sifting, sifting. I found some things that will make Shane say “Hmmmm”, and others say, “What the?????” But, I don’t care. I’m ecstatic about my nifty, thrifty $5 finds.
retro digital prints fo sho!!!
They have something for everyone! Hahaha

the final cut

Wasteland is full of both vintage designer and pre-owned-worn-once-if-anything current designer duds. I was more out for "the deals" that day so I did not get this cool DVF palette party dress (only $85). I really, really, really wanted the vintage jumpsuit on the manny though! Too bad it was it was $250!!!! Oh and btw, they also had unworn louboutin sling backs for $250!!!!!

While shopping: top & scarf (uo), jeans (PPD), necklace & bag (bsky), shoes (sam edelman)

Later that night, the boys and I went to Wokano in Santa Monica for some sushi. I told myself I would wash everything before I wear it, but does a shit load of Febreeze count? I just HAD to wear my knew silk blouse!!!!!

we found this little lady sitting on a pole near a dumpster. Fun prop when you're tipsy.

We'll leave her here for the next tipsy fun bunch to play with. Good night.

while playing: top (thrifted), skirt (helmut lang), shoes (jeffrey campbell), purse (ninewest), cardigan tied to purse (winter kate), rings, cuff, necklace (f21)
