I originally bought this suede fringe vest with a boho direction in mind, but when I paired it with my Sincerely Jules "Pretty Young Things" tank, I felt a little bit rock and roll. Especially with my atm fav leopard clutch that matches everything. BTW, I really love this tank. Unlike my brandy melville tanks, which I love for the oversize fit, this one fits exactly right. I don't have to worry about Willow pulling down on the neckline and exposing my bubbies for the world to see (a recent fascination of hers). Speaking of whom, below is her next WWW post.

Like mommy, I love to mix and match patterns too. I wore my leopard cardigan with striped leggings to Boots & Kimo's on NYE morning where I had my first taste of macadamia nut pancakes. Pancakes are officially on my top three, next to applesauce and sweet potatoes.

Lately, I've been boasting about Willow's many firsts, so I figured it's best to back up my bragging with hard evidence of these adorable moments, with a very first of my own…. video!!! Actually, it's Shane's work. He got a "Go Pro" video camera for his surf board this Christmas (from my brother) and has been addicted to playing around on iMovie ever since. Works out for me because I get to sit back and enjoy his creations and steal them for my blog. He just started using the program and threw these videos together using iMovie's templates, but I must say, if you knew how technically challenged Shane was, then these are absolute works of genius. Holiday Hangover

The annual besties' Secret Santa & White Elephant dinner party is always the year end finale I look forward to. This year, I suggested that we do an intimate dinner, pot luck style, at one of our houses and by "one of our houses", I meant Linh's. Hahaha. But only because her house is baby-free and big enough to contain the drunken mischief that was sure to ensue. I thought it would be fun to bring our own dishes and wear comfortable clothes, but of course in classic Linh-form, she hired a personal chef instead. So then obviously, comfortable attire totally not appropriate which worked out well for all of us 'cause I know we all love a reason to get fancy shmancy.

***Note to Linh: Linny, I didn't mean to impose by suggesting your place, but if you keep being this good to your friends, I don't mind imposing more often, just saying ; ) Lol! Thank you for hosting the most exquisite dinner party!

Anyway, the food was crazy amazing! Just take a look at the menu below. Did someone say "truffle"… two times?! The Mong Chong was cooked to perfection and there's nothing like pop rocks on lychee sorbet to top it off. As usual, we do a theme and this year was anything animal (furs, feathers, prints, etc) and since I already wore my leopard fur coat the other night, I decided to literally go as an animal, a bunny to be exact. I brought a tuxedo clad Vinny aka "Jiggy, so he could play with Linh's Yorkies, but she had Roger take them to her parents. Poor Vin, all dressed up and no one to harass. After dinner, we exchanged presents and had knots-in-your-stomach laughter over the white elephant gifts. Pics of such fun will be posted in facebook only. One of the best presents though, was from Shauna. A book she made of the 6 of us since the beginning. Tear.

I rang in the New Year with a few of the besties at Shauna's house, where Keoni again, out did himself and cooked up the most scrumptious Hawaiian food evar!!!! You can see some of the dishes from last year here. I didn't take too many pictures because I brought Willow to play with Rhyder. As usual though, when one was awake, the other was sleeping. Then I ended up leaving for a bit to put Willow down at my parents and came back just in time to welcome 2012. No matter, I love these special moments with my bestest friends.

Also, while I was somewhat appreciative that they cracked down on fire works for Willow's sake (I was nervous, how she would sleep through the night), I have to say, NYE in Hawaii really sucks without the illegal fireworks. Like, really sucks. It's just not the same.

Willow's first Christmas

Yay, we made it through another year! Except this time, we had the greatest pleasure of having baby Willow bless our lives for the latter part of the year. So many amazing first moments have happened in the past 6 1/2 months, including her very first Christmas and my family made sure it was a special one, filled with love, joy and laughter. Mom made pancakes and omelets for breakfast, Dad made sure that Alvin & The Chipmunks Christmas Carols was playing (it's a tradition) and Terence made sure the tree was over flowing with gifts for Willow. Even the dogs participated in the fun. It was an exciting experience to have her open her first gift, and her second, then her third, but we soon realized that trying to make her savor each present opened could take us well into the night. So we started tearing them open for her. And of course, of all the toys she got, she loved the wrapping paper and ribbons the most. A few days later, we took Willow to see the Christmas lights down town. Here's a summarized photo diary of her Christmas season. Believe me, being the first child/grandchild means pictures of EVERYTHING! The poor kid has a lens in her face 24-7.

A Hawaiian Winter

I'm so lucky to live in Hawaii, where in the dead of "winter," I'm able to rock cut off shorts and wedges. Inspired by the beautiful weather we had today, I played with bold colors in electrifying hues. Royal blue + tomato red make for a pretty snazzy color block look.

On a side note, my camera took some weird pictures today. All the photos below have no filter or editing done to them (except obviously for the b&w one), but isn't there a strange plastic look to the images? Weird.

What Willow Wears:

So I'm thinking that I want to start a little journal, of all the cute things Willow wears. They grow so fast that I find myself changing her outfit twice a day just so I can see her in everything before she out grows them. I want to make sure that I photograph as many of her outfits as possible followed by a little blurb of what she did that day. I'll call it …. (duh) "What Willow Wears" and for now, I'll just combine it within this blog, but eventually I would love to create her very own blog!!!

My life lately? Willow all day, everyday, occasionally sprinkled with fashion and friends and I wouldn't have it any other way. Every since last week Friday, I made sure that 150% of my attention went to spending the remainder of the holiday season with lady bug. We've been insanely busy with work, so I told Shane that I was not going to think about work for at least one week. Which is why the website has been neglected since Black friday, buuuUUuut, I just updated it!!! See, even when I tell myself not to work, I work. Aye!!! Finally…a girl's night out!

Perhaps I was a tad over dressed, but (a) that's just my style… go big or go home and (b) this WAS a momentous occasion. The first time, in a long time that all the besties could be at one place at one time (except Neysa, but we made sure she was included via vulgar vm's and texts). We've all been entirely too busy being responsible grown ups, so the other night we celebrated this rare freedom! Let's just say that the next day, I was hanging like an unexperienced freshmen pledge during rush week. Aaaand hang overs at 30+ are at least 100x's more brutal.

Typically one to reach for the 9" platform, I was a little apprehensive about getting the Jeffrey Campbell Elegant loafers. I don't own many flats, there only 4 in rotation to be specific...my Melissa jellies, my glitter Keds, my Nine West leopard ballet flats and my Tory Burch slippers. Yep, pretty much in heels ALL THE TIME. Perhaps that's why, when get a pedicure, they bring out the heavy artillery and start whispering to each other and pointing at me feet. LoL!

Well... I'm sooooooooooo happy I ended up getting them! Much to my surprise, I've been wearing them er'day, no joke! It's like, now all I see are outfits that match these studded beauties. They go perfectly with all my jeans that I can now comfortably fit again and they look great with all the shorts I've been living in. I'm even tempted to rock these at night for a much needed GNO with my besties!

Anyway, I'm off to LA for a last minute buying trip and I'm delighted in the fact that I can pack solely around these loafers. ONE PAIR OF SHOES! That's probably a record, right?! Here are the other outfits I'm bringing. Comfy, yet effortlessly cool… I hope : )

It's beginning to look a lot like… Black Friday

Unrelated to the post title, I wore this to work the other day. It was a long, busy day of shooting the new arrivals so I had to dress as comfortably as possible. I usually rely on my trusty ole' Siwy Camilla cut off's on these days. And the trench? Aaahhh, the trench! This was my only purchase from H&M during our San Francisco trip while I was 6 months pregnant (it was the only thing that fit) and it's my first time wearing it. Perfect for our chilly office. I love the classic khaki color with my mint chunky sweater from the new arrivals! BTW, this sweater will be available on Friday!!!

We have so many new arrivals, I'm excited to re-merchandise my store!!! And I'm absolutely head over heels with each and every single piece from this buy. I love it all.

Yay for cold(er) weather! Even if it is just the slightest bit of morning chill, it's all the excuse I need to revisit my sweater drawer. I really miss that about living in Los Angeles…the fall weather that requires sweaters, coats, scarves and LAYERS! I love how Aimee of Song of Style has been layering her pieces lately. She's always on point.

Another master of layering that I swoon over is Bee from Atlantic-Pacific. Not only is she brilliant at layering, but she really knows how to mix & match pieces from different labels & designers to affordable & high end all in one outfit. She always looks like she stepped right off the page of a fashion editorial!

Anyway, I kind of went off on a tangent. My point was, that I'm so looking forward to the 75 degree weather here in paradise. And, I'm excited about traveling to SD & LA next week wherein I will take full advantage of weather that truly warrants layers and sweaters. But for now, here's a simple light weight sweater that's just right for the moderate "chill."

Ever since I did our vlog about color blocking last week, I've been determined to infuse more color into my personal wardrobe. But not just bold color…bright NEON color! My closet at a quick glance, is mostly neutral (lots of cream, ivory, beige, gray and black), which is the perfect foundation for pairing with said NEONS. This sweater is quite blinding, so I subdued the color by pairing it with beige while strolling through Chinatown this morning. I'm absolutely smitten by this sweater so you can bet you'll be seeing it again… and again (and again)

How many times have you uttered these words to yourself? When ever I spew out "I have nothing to wear", I immediately slap myself for being making such a bratty statement. But sometimes, Im really uninspired by the duds hanging in my closet. Part of my problem is that I impulse buy. Seldom do I buy outfits and I never think about how that piece will work with anything I currently own. So when it comes time to mix and match in my closet, it takes forever. This was the third outfit I put on before finally leaving the house the other day (all older pieces). I don't really even know what look I'm going for here, but I was satisfied with the combination of beige, white and black.

Willow's 1st Halloween

So heeeeere's Willow!!! Celebrating her first Halloween at 4 1/2 months old, as a kitty cat. My parents actually bought her this costume a couple of months ago and I've been dying to debut her in it. I will admit, however, that she did wear it around the house a few times just for mommy's kicks. Coincidentally, she happens to almost look like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland, so it worked out perfectly as a family costume theme.

We joined the Chans for trick or treating at Kahala Mall, where upon I squealed with glee when I laid my eyes on Rhyder the bubba-licious lion. Karter (Shauna's 6 year old) dressed as Bobafet. He was busy standing in line collecting candy. The mall was crazy packed with babies, kiddies, mommies and daddies all dressed up. I knew I was pushing my luck when I asked Shane to wear the make-up again. At least he wore the ridiculous wig even though he kind of looks like Willa Wonka. Hahaha!

Hahaha Jack (my brother)! I don't know if you can see it, but there's the tiniest, little, slit of a hole below Jack's nose from which he could "see". Needless to say, he had to hold on to the stroller to be guided through the mall the entire time. LOL!

Sweet E's Cafe

I think I've disclaimed this about myself before, but I am the furthest thing from a food connoisseur. My taste buds are simple and don't require anything out of the ordinary to get a thumbs from me. I guess, I eat to get full, not to nibble and taste.

So, according to me, this new cafe that we tried Sunday morning gets a 7 (out of 10) for food and a 9 for ambience. Sweet E's Cafe is an unassuming little spot tucked away in Kilohana Square (just below Kristen Wood Salon, where I get my lashes done). Shane ordered the kalua eggs benedict and I got the chicken pesto omlette. Huge portions btw, but what I particularly loved about this little nook of a cafe, was the well lit, shabby chic decor. If you're ever put off by the ridiculous wait at Cafe Kaila (in Market City), Sweet E's is just down the street and equivalent in food quality, but superior in ambience.

If you don't trust my opinion, take it from Willow ; )

Every year my best friend, Sass, invites me to the Gift Foundation Halloween Party, a super swanky costume gala where EVERYONE goes ALL out. Don't you dare not come in your best thought of costume. Of course I, as with most girls, used this once a year opportunity to dress up like a slutty whatever. The best part of my costume however, was Shane. How dope is he, to allow me to do this to him? Hahaha, the only time I will ever have to carry HIS lipstick in my purse. Uh... and I kind of have to brag about my hair & make-up skills (on Shane). Just saying. LOL. Well, a lot of drunken debauchery occurred this night, but I'm saving those pics for facebook.

Super mom

Do you miss me yet? Hahaha! Is it ok for me to say that "I miss me?"

It's been so long since my last post, I have blogging withdrawals. When I was pregnant, I was able to maintain my busy work schedule and social life without skipping a beat. Pregnancy was so easy on me, that I naively assumed once I popped Willow out, I could be super mom.

I imagined I could do it all... maintain a clean & organized home, run a business and website, have time for the besties, keep my workout regimen, give Vinny the same amount of attention, pamper myself, put on make-up everyday and continue fashion blogging all while feeding, bathing, sleeping and nurturing a little human being.

"Pop" <---- That was my bubble bursting.

Some things just had to give…

I never work out (it's a blessing that breastfeeding burns tons of calories).

I let my pedicures go for months before finally removing the sliver of remaining polish.

Make-up is secondary to more sleep in the morning.

Bestie GNO's are far, far, far and few, few, few between. So sad.

And blogging? Well, by the time I have a few moments all to myself at night, my brain is dead from trying to be the super mom I thought I could be.

But you know what I realize? That being a super mom doesn't mean doing it all. It means knowing what your limits are in order to be the best for your little one. Every decision I make, I think about how it would affect her future (short term and long term). Any sacrifice from my usual routine is what is needed to make HER world perfect and her well being takes precedence over anything.

So if this means blogging only once a month, then so be it. If you guys are still out there, I hope you stick around : )!!!

Love the versatility of this soft coral maxi. It's quite a summery piece, but I predict I will be rocking this dress through fall, as it seems to transition nicely into the season's rust and copper tones hues. I could wear it under my Brandy Melville Maddy sweater from this post for a casual look or go sophisticated by wearing it under a sleek blazer.

While Willow went down for her morning nap, I decided to play around with these new Sam Edelman's that my brother bought for me. Yah, for no reason at all. Just because he's one hell of a thoughtful and generous guy. Thanks brother bear!!! I'm absolutely smitten over the bad ass spikey heel embellishment. Don't mess with me or I'll round house kick you in the head! Lol, jk!!

Also "new" is this Kova and T blouse that I purchased while pregnant. I was really attracted to the vertical stripe pattern. I generally love all stripes, but seldom do you find them in this elongating pattern. They're usually horizontal, typical of the nautical trend that's EVERYWHERE. Vertical stripes appear more sharp and classic… making this blouse one I would keep forever.

I paired it with a F21 suede skirt and completed my look with accents of silver and turquoise.

new hair

Finally had some time this weekend, to pamper myself with a new do!!! Nothing drastic, but I've been dying to refresh my "mommy do" (long lifeless bangs, always tied in a bun). I was in dire need of cut. My hair was so long and shapeless. Blah! By recommendation of Linh, I went to Jovan at J Salon. I love to wear my hair beachy wavy/messy bed head and sometimes it's hard to explain this to hair stylists without offending their years of training. How do you tactfully say, "I'm a wash and go type of girl so please cut my hair in such a way that I will NOT have to take care of it by NOT deep conditioning it and NOT brushing it, EVER?"

Well, Jovan got it! He added layers and volume in all the right places and now I have a "hot mommy do!" Still the low maintenance required for on the go mommyhood, but with more shape and texture. Of course, you can never replicate the way you leave the salon, so here's an instagram pic of my new hair at it's optimum potential. I wish I could have salon styled hair everyday.

BTW, how do like the shoes? They're my latest crush!!! I was on the hunt for the perfect t-strap a long time ago, but gave up once I became pregnant. When I saw these at Aldo last, I had to have.

Sakura Bloom

Here I am at work, loving my new Sakura Bloom linen baby sling. Although I also have the Bjorn, this sling nurtures more of a bond between baby and mother because baby feels snug as a bug and the ergonomically correct positions in which they sit remind them of being back in mommy's tummy. There are several hands-free ways to wear baby (this position is called the "kangaroo") and you can use it from infancy through their toddler years. There's even a hands free nursing position! Imagine that! Typing this post with both hands while she eats!!!

Sakura Bloom slings come in linen (suggested for warmer climates) or silks and are available in a variety of colors or patterns. I got the single layer linen, pixie pattern in cotton candy. Oh, and dad's can wear this sling too, although I would suggest a neutral color like black or beige! LOL!

The only "down side" is that you really have to practice putting baby in correctly. It took me several days and more than a few attempts to get her positioned correctly to the point where she and I were secure and comfortable together. But, once you get the art of sling wearing down, the benefits are bountiful.

Pretty Please With Taro Cream Cheese On Top

After going to YogurStory with Shauna last week, I finally got to take Shane there for lunch today. Super yum, plus a really contemporary environment (for Hawaii). Shane got the Cobb Salad, while I oinked out on the Bi Bim Bop Fried Rice. I swear I had more self control when I was pregnant. What the heck? But the worst (ahem, I mean the best) part was that darn Red Carpet Waffle that everyone already posted pics of. It doesn't need anymore press and I don't mean to be cliche, but I just had to take a picture of this delectable delight. Seriously the best dessert (or breakfast???) I've ever had! My favorite part is the dollop of TARO cream cheese. Going forward, I would like to top everything with taro cream cheese. Thanks.

So this Instagram thing is pretty rad. It can make a decent photo blogger out of even the most artistically challenged by offering different filter options for your images with a single swipe of the finger. Why the heck do I even need to mess around with photoshop anymore?!

Plus, it's all done on your phone. Seriously, what can't our phones do anymore? While, I'm admittedly a victim to all the technology and social media frenzy, I have to say that I miss the days of writing letters in cursive or passing origami folded notes in class. How cool would it be to receive a hand-written letter in the mail? All have been replaced by email and text messages. We live in such a fast paced society and it seems that all we are concerned about is moving faster. Kind of sad…

Water baby

I didn't want to submerse her entirely today, because she has a bit of a diaper rash going on, but she did enjoy a pool side dip. It may appear otherwise from the pictures (lol!), but that was just the initial shock of the cold water. After that, she welcomed the swish swash, splish splash. More than Vinny for sure!

PS- It was mere coincidence that my lipstick matched Willow's swim suit and that my top matched the tile around my parent's pool.

I was always apprehensive of how Vinny would react to me having a baby. After all, he's been the "only child" for 8 years now. Don't let his pint sized stature and perfectly coiffed puppy do fool you. Yes, he is THAT old. Like a newborn, I took him everywhere so surely he was accustomed to being the only apple of my eye. And, I depend on him just as much as he depends on me. I literally have a hard time falling asleep when he's not on my pillow where I can smell him. TRUE STORY! Anyone that knows me, can attest to this.

So naturally, I was very nervous about his "feelings" towards Willow prior to her arrival. Would he be jealous? Would he be territorial? Would he be vicious? Would he hate me? Could he love her? I was hopeful of the latter, but expected the former(s).

Enter Willow.

Needless to say, he may not love her (yet), but he has been a very, very good boy despite being placed in a temporary back seat. He is so patient and has accepted the fact that her needs come first. When Shane and I are ogling over or tending to her, he is always near but never interferes. And now, when we leave him at home (keep in mind, he accompanied us almost everywhere), he never hesitates to greet us with the utmost enthusiasm upon our return. As if unaffected by the change in routine. His love for us remains unconditional! The only time he reacts towards her is when she is crying. I like to think of his anxious whimpers and frantic circling as sincere concern for his sibling's well being. Shane on the other hand, thinks it's just annoying. Lol.

All in all, Vinny has truly been amazing to Willow. As I finish up this post, he sleeps peacefully on my pillow waiting for his mommy to join him. I love you my little buzzle man!

Love this Wild Fox tribal tank dress, but I especially love my tribal "willow" cuff that Shane custom designed and gave to me as my "push" present. He knows me so well. Heck that's why I married the guy! I was so impressed that he actually thought of this design. Made of rhodium plated sterling silver, hand enameled and dotted with a diamond, not only is this cuff fashionably rad, but it's completely sentimental.

Life changing

Last night was our friend Justin's birthday shin dig at Tsunami's. My mom and dad graciously offered to watch Willow so I was thrilled about the chance to mingle nocturnally again. I actually did my cat-eye eyeliner thingie (something I haven't done from being about 6 months pregnant), slapped on my brightest shade of lipstick and squeezed my way back into my skinny jeans. Trust me, there was a lot of squeezing and tucking away of the post-baby jiggle. That's the wonderful thing about jeans though, they're like girdles.

Anyway, I got to see a lot of the night owls I used to see, got to feel pretty & dressed up and had fun being social again. But a mere hour and thirty minutes in, Shane and I looked at each other with the same thought cloud above our heads… "I miss Willow, I want to go home. Do you?" We raced home and practically fought over who got to lullaby her to sleep in her rocking chair!

Moral of the story, and hence my post title, is that babies change everything! For the better. There's a deep, deep love and desire to always want the best for your child, this includes being right at their side to soothe every whimper, to witness every milestone, to comfort every cry, to answer to every need and to just stare in amazement at the wonderful miracle you made.

I've been hidden away at home for the past 3 weeks!!!

While every moment has been spent enjoying Willow's precious first moments, it has also been difficult, exhausting and completely fashion-less, LOL! My friend Audra, put it the best… "It's like groundhog's day, those first few weeks." The same day over and over again. That, plus sleep deprivation can surely make anyone go temporarily insane.

This weekend, however, Willow & I, got to break free from the confines of our seemingly shrinking abode. I used to love retreating to the cozy size of our home after long hours at work, but now "cozy" has become "stuffy." So on Sunday, Shane (being the sweet and loving new daddy), thoughtfully suggested a picnic at the park!!! It was a much needed adventure outside of our usual scenery, with green umbrella-like trees, crystal blue skies, soft wind, chirping birds and lots of love.

Then on 4th of July, Keani hosted an impromptu BBQ at her condo's pool. It was the first time since my baby shower in May, that all of my best friends were able to be together at one time (minus Neysa, boo!) It was also the first time Willow got to meet her boyfriend, Rhyder.

Oh and something I've recently been addicted to as a result of round-the-clock-feedings-with nothing-else-to-do-because-I'm-immobile-but-tinker-around-on-my-iphone is the Instagram app for facebook. First pic, from me, second & third stolen from Shauna's Instagram.

My contractions started at 4:00am on Monday, June 13th, 2011. A long and exhausting 36 hours later, I began my new journey into mommyhood. Going through labor and giving birth to my precious ladybug, was a right of passage that I will NEVER forget, but above all, the bond that was nurtured over the past 9 months was indescribable. . . to smell her, to feel her, to hold her, to hear her for the first time. . . a feeling only mommies would know.

Everything is finally ready for my lady bug! I completed the finishing touches in Willow's nursery, which included the crystal chandelier that I ridiculously decided to craft from scratch. Must be a nesting thing. I'm quite proud of it though. I originally wanted to buy a crystal light chandelier from Cottage By The Sea, but they run upwards of $300. Instead, I spent $80 on supplies and about 24 hours total (spread over 3 weeks!) on planning and executing.

All other elements of her room took time to collect and put together, which is why it took me so long to post pictures. I must say, however, that it all started with tiered ruffle curtains from Urban Outfitters. It was the very first thing I bought when we found out we were having a girl. I'm obviously smitten by these, as I have them in my "closet room" and at Bamboo Sky.

Anyway, here's pics of Willow's nursery. Crossing my fingers for Monday, but if she's anything like her mama, she'll be making a fashionably late entrance.

Or at least I dream of wearing short shorts right now! Just because I can't fit anything but knit dresses (ugghhh, I never thought I could actually hate dresses), it doesn't mean I can't fancy up some cute outfits from my closet that I plan to wear as soon as I lose the post-bun chub. OMG!!! I miss all my shorts!!!!!! Anyway, here's a few outfits I've been dying to wear lately….

TIERED LACE

I can't remember the site I bought these shorts from, but I bought them in February shortly after my SF trip, thinking I could just squeeze into them. NO SUCH LUCK. Good thing lace is forever. Even if I miss the trend this season, I have a feeling these bad boys will be just as savory next spring/summer. And it's an even better thing that I live in Hawaii where it's summer year round. I like the idea of mixing ultra casual (graphic tank) with girly (lace shorts) topped with a dash of glam (beaded cardigan).

FLIRTY HEARTS

Though I tend to be more boho, I also love a clean preppy look. I own a few of these "sexy librarian" type blouses and I can't wait to wear them tucked into cute skorts like this mini heart print one I've owned for a while. I particularly love the scallop hem detail of these. So flirty, just like me!

SUMMER BLOSSOMS

Of course my summer wardrobe would not be complete without a pair of floral chiffon shorts. I bought these from H&M during my SF trip intending to wear them with longer tunic tops to cover the belly but it just seemed so wrong to hide the gorgeous orange and mint hue under something. These adorable shorts need to be the center of attention, so when I can, I will wear them with my go-to, skin tone bustier from Urban Outfitters, brown floppy hat and platform wedges.

PERFORATED PLAY SHORTS

I like the idea of sporty chic and nothing is more fashionably sporty than these faux leather, high waist gym-style shorts! And I especially love them because of the perforated design. When I bought these I knew they would be "for later" as you simply can not wear anything high waisted after the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy. I couldn't NOT get them though, so I've been patiently waiting to debut them.

LEATHER

I love my leather sport shorts! They go with everything, but I'm dying to wear them with fun neutrals like this silk kimono cardigan. I found this lonely cardigan peering from beneath an overpacked rack in Forever 21 months ago. It was the only one and it was a size L. The size however, did not discourage me from falling in love with it. In fact, I tend to buy all my cardigans in size medium or large for an intentional oversized fit. I feel that coverups like these should always look like they're falling off your shoulders for a truly "nicole richie" boho look.

PASTEL CUT OFFS

And finally, I CAN NOT wait to get back into my trustee ole' Camilla cut offs by Siwy. This style is my numero uno fav of all time (I have them in every wash) and now they're available in fun, pastel summer colors like this one..."Lucky In Love". I carry them on shop.bamboosky.com and they're also available in "Desert Rose" (light pink) , "Sand Castle" (beige) and "Love Spell" (white). Besides wearing them with all sorts of tees and tanks, I imagine they will be just as rad with this old pastel plaid button up.

A shower for the lady bug...and me

If it's ok, I would like to brag about not only how haute my friends are, but also how wonderfully loving, thoughtful, creative and generous they are. Last weekend, my lovebugs threw Shane and me the most beautiful, classy, fun-filled baby shower. I'm so lucky to have them in my life, but I think the lady bug will be even luckier.

How to hide a watermelon

Someone commented on a recent post of mine, asking how I manage to stage "small" during my pregnancy. First of all, flattery will get you EVERYWHERE! Lol, I kid : )

Thank you for the much needed boost of confidence at this particular point of my pregnancy, but I certainly do not feel small. I have slowed down quite a bit in past month and have chronic lower back pain almost every day. Honestly, I can't really attribute my size to any consistent diet or exercise regimen (it's fluctuated from trimester to trimester) but I will share with you how my pregnancy has been since the beginning. Also, I think I've learned a lot about how to dress while pregnant which maybe one of the reasons why I just look "small." I assure you, I'm currently hoarding a watermelon.

FIRST TRIMESTER

The moment we found out we were pregnant, I was determined to eat only things that were nutritious for me and my baby, ensuring a healthy developing fetus. My first "secret" is that I was very, VERY blessed to not have any morning sickness, so I was able to control my eating habit with ease. In fact, I craved nutritious things like fruit and veggies over ice cream and pizza. Papayas, apples and bananas to be specific. And because my energy level was not affected by lack of sleep and nausea, I was able to continue with my hectic work schedule without skipping a beat and my pre-preggo work outs which included at home kick boxing routines, yoga, free weights and ballet exercises remained undisturbed.

As with most, this trimester, my body didn't change much. Perhaps my jeans felt a little bit snugger, but it was nothing the good ole' rubber band expander trick couldn't take care of. When I did feel somewhat bloated, I looked to the oversized boho styles for comfort AND fashion. I feel, if any trimester to rock this look without feeling "maternity," it would the first. Usually, your 1st trimester belly bump isn't nearly big enough to make you look like a tent yet so I suggest not heading for the maternity stores yet. Just rock what you can for as long as you can! SECOND TRIMESTER

My diet and cravings remained the same, except now I wanted to eat more often and peanut butter anything was a must. I was constantly thinking about what my next meal would be. Not typically a breakfast person, by the 4th month, I absolutely had to have cereal and fruit in the morning. The belly growled for lunch by 1pm (when before I could wait until 4pm), dinner was bumped up to 5pm instead of 8pm and dessert was now a part of my daily vocabulary. As for my exercise routine, my doctor (and Shane) advised me to take it a little easier. So I replaced the more aggressive kickboxing routines with long walks. I walked anywhere and everywhere I could.

Dressing during the 2nd semester became significantly more taxing. I now had a belly that could still be hidden under loose tops, but I was challenged to figure out my bottoms. I refused to wear empire waist dresses or long maxis yet, partly because I was in denial that I was no longer a size 2, but also because my current fashion loves called for cute separates. Shauna, one of my besties and veteran m.i.l.f taught me to buy things that had a flat stretchy waist band. We frequented F21 for cheap bottoms that would hug and flatter our growing bellies, without constricting it. Printed stretchy mini skirts and elastic waist skorts became my new best friend. THIRD TRIMESTER

So here I am, 7 1/2 months in with about 5 weeks to go. My diet has taken a turn for the sweet! The bad sweet. I can no longer resist pastas, breads, pastries and candies. Although I still like fruits/salads/veggies, I like to chase them with chocolate treats. I've gained the most weight in the past month and she has definitely made herself known. With a lot of discomfort lately, my exercise regimen has also suffered. If do have the energy, I try to incorporate light free weights to keep the arms taught and ballet exercises to flex the hips and tone the legs. I used to walk from Kapahulu to Kahala 1-2 times a week, but now I can hardly walk to the bathroom without feeling out of breath. So you see why your compliment comes at an ideal time for me: )

I suppose my "trick" to hiding the malasadas and kit kats is to simply show her off. I can't wear the boho tunics anymore because now, they really look maternity! When clothes stand too far away from the body, it doesn't disguise anything, it actually adds pounds. I think that as soon as your belly becomes an obvious pregnant belly, it's best to wear things that hug the "curves." I've been wearing fitted dresses, and knit tops that drape over my stomach. Also, I continue to seek refuge in mini hemlines because it adds lengths to my rounding body. I figure, I'm obviously pregnant so why not show it off!

A new year, new things

Well, at least it was the beginning of a new year for me today. I turned 30 something years old today and I'm thrilled for this new chapter in my life. With the lady bug on the way, I couldn't help but to feel (for the first time since turning 21) excited to be older (albeit, this go around much wiser). Previous celebrations involved, in fact required, a "big deal" dinner with friends, stressing about an "it girl" b-day outfit, 1,000 pictures of us getting shit faced and club hopping until wee hours of the night. Yes, those days were EXTREMELY fun, but this year I thoroughly enjoyed a low key weekend with Shane and my family. As I approach new mommy-hood, I revel in the thought of doing things new things with my new family.

8am: Woke up to this sight and knew it was going to be a good day

9am: Took vinny to the beach for some personal QT

11am: Came home to a petal lined stairway and these beautiful & thoughtful flowers from Shane. I love getting flowers from him. Maybe I'm a sap, but this gesture means the world to me.

12pm: Wore this to lunch at Pineapple Room with the family. Enjoyed my favorite dish, New Zealand Salmon Ochazuke.

2pm: Mom spoiled me/the lady bug by buying us a new rocker for the nursery (amongst many other things). Is 30 something too old to still be spoiled by your Mom?

Bittersweet

This last trip to LA, just me and Shane, was a little nostalgic. It was my final trip sans the "new edition," at least for a few months and since my brother moved home we'll have a different home base in the future. LA is like my second home so I'll miss my monthly city fix dearly. Plus, when we start traveling with the lady bug, we won't be doing the same things anymore. Granted, we'll be starting new and beautiful memories, but nonetheless visits to LA will be different. Typically my spare time would have been spent at my favorite shopping spots around town, but this trip was about eating everything my heart desired and visiting old stomping grounds for memory's sake.

I'll miss this neighborhood

I am sort of relieved, however, to not have to travel in the near future because let me tell ya, trying to look cute while packing some extra lbs. is not any easy task. Nor a comfortable one. That's also the reason for the lack of personal fashion posts lately. I've resorted to wearing tunic-like tops with the same rotation of leggings and smocked waist Jolt shorts. Ugh, so boring! But only 6-7 more weeks to go. Then, it's exercise boot camp for me so I can squeeze in the last month of summer fashion! My goal being, to be able to wear my flare jeans and assortment of high waist culottes before they're seasonably out of style.

...gray sweaters!!!

We did some major cleaning and home improvements this weekend. This includes re-painting, carpeting, deep cleaning and re-organizing of my closet. As I was going through my sweater collection (yes, I own enough to deem them a "collection"), I realized that I have over 10 variations of just gray sweaters. From thin layering ones to chunky ones and cropped ones to tunic ones. Mind you, each in several shades of gray. This is a serious illness because I live in Hawaii!!! I don't need ANYMORE!

Except for maybe this one : ) Today, as I was editing photos for shop.bamboosky.com new arrivals, I was reminded about how much I was in love with this sweater when we shot it this past week! It has a chunky look, but it's thin and perfect for belting over a feminine slip-like dress. I must have this delicious marled knit sweater now!

What: Alexander Wang Kirsten Suede Tote $945

Why: I never spend money on designer bags. I favor designer shoes for some reason, but this bag just sings to me. I've had this picture saved in my wish list folder since January. Kind of reminds me of a straight jacket, but I die for the light gray suede. I imagine it's just as versatile as black. Hmmm, I wonder if this would make a practical diaper bag? And, for that matter, I wonder if Alexander Wang has a baby registry? Ha, I kid!

What: Mini Market Space Shoe Wood Wedge Sandal $348

Why: For the modern Wood Stock lover. I've been on the look out for amazing 70's style wedges lately and I love the architectural uniqueness of this one. Plus, it's in white. A must have color for summer. Would look so fresh with the bag above (and the swimsuit below... and even the puppy below)

What: VPL swimsuit $175

Why: Ok maybe this one I could "afford" if I begged and begged and begged Shane for some fun money, BUT I certainly can not fit. With my body from about 7 1/2 months ago, I would have rocked this to all the fun pool parties I've been missing with a black, sheer chiffon, high-waisted, super duper wide leg pant. I think I just want this one because I semi-miss my pre-bun body. Don't get me wrong, I L.O.V.E my pregnant belly, but to be svelte especially with summer coming up, is also nice ; )

What: Alejandro Inglemo x Chris Benz Woven Wedge Pump $795

Why: So this one, I just happened upon as I was perusing shopbop. It made my heart stop for a quick second. It's a wedge + a clog + a mule, all of which I love separately so together, it's pretty much heaven. These bad boys are meant to be worn with the mini-est of shorts and I have lots of those. It's a good thing, though, that I already found my neutral summer wedge from Aldo at 1/8 the price (from my last post). They're totally not the same, but it sort of makes this one easier to live without. I said, sort of.

What: French Bulldog Puppy $800- $1400

Why: No, I'm not over Vinny by any means. I just think he needs a furry friend sometimes. We work so much and although he gets to come with us everyday, I seldom have time to walk him as much as prescribed by Caesar Milan. I swear the poor guy sleeps about 20 hours a day. I do take him on long walks about 2 times a week, but I know that a fur fellowed friend would keep him entertained at ALL times. And, if you know how much I love Vinny, you'll know that I want his life to be perfect in every way possible.

Keeping it simple

Normally, I would have tricked out this girly button up blouse by tucking into a high waisted polka dot skort of some kind, swept my hair up into a side bun, worn pearl (or skull) earrings and done my kick ass aldo booties from this post, but I wanted to be comfortable and toned down today. Lady like

I wore this dress to a wedding yesterday. I love it because (a) it reminds me of the 50's (b) it makes me feel like a lady (even though I'm the furtherest thing from a "lady", quite rough and clumsy actually and (c) it works with my bun, allowing me to stuff my face without feeling the slightest bit uncomfortable or self conscious. See, totally not lady-like.

But don't let the bun scare you, this is NOT a maternity dress. This dress looks even more fab sans bun as seen here on our model Kristen. Doesn't her NATURAL strawberry blonde hair look so amazing against the deep navy?

Cheesy but true. Shane is the warm sun that brings me to life everyday and in a little over 2 months our little bun will be the center of our universe.

Today after work, we spent some time enjoying what we usually take for granted when we routinely drive straight home to burrow ourselves in a darkening house…. a beautiful sunset. The air even smells different at this time. I think sunsets are so captivating because it's the moment you realize it will disappear and that's when you desire it the most. Nature's way of reminding you not to take things for granted I guess. And, it's the best time to breathe in the day and reflect on all of life's beautiful blessings. The fact that we live now, in this world, at this time, in this moment…. we are so lucky.

My first beautiful announcement today is that Shauna's baby Rhyder is here!!!! A healthy 7.5 lb little angel, perfect in every way. I'll have to refrain from posting a picture of him until she' s ready to post her own pics on FB, but I can say, that if the overwhelming joy I had for Rhyder today is any testament to how I will be when my bun is here, then she's in for some serious, SERIOUS lovin. Congratulations again to my love bug and her family!

Second, my brother moved home today and is here to stay!!!! Now my whole family is here in Hawaii and it warms me to bits knowing that everything dearest to my heart is only 5 minutes away. I adore our simple family dinners at home and now it's so much easier for me to bug him whenever I want. It's funny how when we were young, he was the little bug-a-boo tag along…. now, it's me. Always calling him for no reason, "Hi. Whatcha doin?"

And the last beautiful thing I want to share is about our sweet little Laurie. This past Saturday, she competed in the 59th Cherry Blossom Festival Ball. I was so impressed by her composure, grace and confidence, it brought me to tears. Laurie is the sweetest, most humble girl I know… the kind that's made of pure sugar. Congratulations Laurie, on a very special accomplishment! I'm so proud of you!

Doesn't it feel soooooo good when you're fresh out of the shower and you plop your naked self onto freshly laundered sheets? Shane and I call this nudey patootie time. Anyway, that has nothing to do with today's post except that I was wearing a nude blazer and made me feel fresh. Fresh as in cool, you dig? Haha, I'm such a dork all the time.

Anywho, let's see…. what has been going on since my last post? A few things I suppose.

1. My belly has grown significantly and it has been quite depressing trying to work with this season's trends. All of which I'm dying for…. ie: 70's high waist culottes and flare jeans. So I'm at that point where I must choose between style or comfort. The lack of posts will corroborate that the latter won that debate these past few weeks. Luckily, my pregnant bestie Shauna told me about these super comfortable shorts at Nordstrom by Jolt. They're a junior brand, but all the waistbands are smocked or made of ribbed knit fabric (not elastic) that smoothly lays over my belly without cutting off circulation. I was so stoked to get my hands on few pairs and they're also only $30.

2. Speaking of Shauna, we threw her a baby shower 2 weekends ago. Linh, posted pics from that fun day on her blog and I plan to post my pics soon too. The most exciting news about Shauna though, is that she's due to have Rhyder next week!!!! I'm so excited for her and there's already been a pre-arranged marriage agreement for her monkey and my lady bug. Just saying.

3. While the expansion of MY wardrobe has temporarily come to a halt, my lady bug's is vastly growing. First of all, my mom has been spoiling her without me even knowing. But I'm not complaining mom ; ) Hahaha!!! And my nightly visits to babygap.com, babiesrus.com and target baby have taken precedence over the usual urban/lulus/shopbop/f21 urls. I think baby clothes are just so darn "collectible." Especially the infant socks. They are the cutest things I've ever laid my eyes on. I've included a funny iphone pic of why I heart baby socks at the end of this post for your amusement.

4. And lastly, of course I was busy working on bringing in the latest and greatest for our "Walking on Sunshine Spring Sale Event". You must get your booties to either, or both stores this weekend. So many fab goodies, all on sale! For now, I'll have to live vicariously through all you fashionable ladies as you stock up on the high-waisted skorts, rompers, 70's maxis and full skirts that I wish I could fit! I can however, wear cool accessories, especially this killer horn necklace that will be available at shop.bamboosky.com next week!!!! It's seriously amazing.

Weeeeelllll, maybe not really. Ha! Could you imagine?

On Tuesday, Shane and I decided to pull over on the way home when the sun peeked out for just a second to capture some blog pictures. Vin was with us (as he's a spoiled brat and comes to work everyday) so we couldn't leave him the car!!!!! Hence, it looks like I walk my dog in 5" platform stilettos.

Yesterday I revisited this walk way to take Vin on a real walk. I assure you, I wore a hoodie and sneakers.

Shutter bugs!

Some of mah lady bugs and I played around with shutter speed the other night. It's a tricky little function, for you must have the steady limbs of a cheetah on the hunt. That or, a tripod or table top! Actually, playing with shutter speed at night requires a tripod or you'll never get a crisp image because it's humanly impossible for you you hold a camera as steady as a rock. I wanted to capture some night lights that would normally vanish behind the flash of an automatic setting, so I set my shutter speed to 1.5 seconds, allowing the background light to be absorbed through the lens longer. This of course required very stoic, deliberate poses from my subjects (Linh and Sara) because with the shutter being open longer to capture more light, it's also capturing any little movement. Even an eye blink. Think of it this way, the longer the shutter stays open, the more it "records." Anyway, that was my little lesson to Linh that night, since she just bought her digital SLR!!! Now we can paparazzi stalk each other! Hahaha.

Sometimes I don’t realize that I have comments/questions from past posts and when I do finally see them I’m not sure if the reader who posted the question even goes back to see if I responded. So I’ve decided to do a little Q & A post replying to as many inquiries as I can find that I may have missed + some other random things about myself! This will be a pretty long post so just click on the "read more" jump link to view the rest of my questions and responses.

Why do I blog?

I was first introduced to the world of blogging in 2008, from one of my dearest friends Jen. She has ALWAYS looked out for me and suggested that it would be a fun way to express my passion for the industry I was involved in. So I created my blog some months later with the intentions of just trying it out for fun. If I had known how addictive blogging would eventually become to me, I would have taken the time to come up with a more creative name, but “Tiffheartfashion” it is!

Anyway, my first post was a silly little pic of me being me, while trying on a new Mink Pink dress at the store and posts that followed were similar to facebook status updates and mobile uploads... not much fashion content, just random thoughts. But still, I really enjoyed “journaling” about all the things I loved in life, including my work and my playtime, but mostly my immense passion for fashion and shopping. Prior to blogging, playing dress up was ALWAYS something I did, but now I had an outlet to document my “creations” and to talk about them. And so this blog turned into the diary I never had.

Ultimately, what started off as just curiosity, turned into something I can’t wait to express when I think of a new outfit, or when I’m inspired, or when I desire something, or when I have a great time with friends, or when we get silly at work or when I just can’t contain my love for Shane and Vinny. It’s my whole life out there for people to read about . . . it’s ME at play, at work and in love.

Who are my fav bloggers at the moment?

Well, of course all the peeps on my blogroll off to the side there, but I’ve also been having new love affairs with Fashionbag411, Sincerely Jules and Peace of Me.

Fashionbag411, because Liana has a keen sense for thrifted/vintage fashion and her style is wearable and not contrived. I like bloggers who are after my own heart in finding fashion in all things, not just in labels and brand names.

Sincerely Jules, for the same reasons as Fashionbag411, but’s also just so darn adorable. Her casual chic style is simply lust worthy. It’s so “non-pretentious California girl”, I love it.

Peace of Me because, well, not only is Linh one of my besties, but because she reminds me of Olivia Palermo. Always sophisticated and put together. She’s new to the blog scene so follow her!!!!

Photography/Camera tips?

Someone once asked me to share some photography advice. Warning, I am very, very, very novice when it comes to photography and cameras, so I can only offer advice from my personal experience because I still have soooooooo much more to learn myself. And if I’m wrong about something and there’s an advanced photographer out there reading this, please correct me and share some useful tips with us aspiring photographers!!!

Now, I really love my digital SLR, but before I tell you that you MUST spend money on an expensive camera, I want to say that you can still take great photos using just about any camera. All you need to do is practice training your eye to capture a “good” photo. Play with composition. Instead of centering your subject, try capturing it offset a little. And play with foreground focus (the macro setting that most cameras already come with). Case in point…

Also, another little trick I use to make my subjects look taller and slimmer is to shoot them from a slightly upward angle. Ever noticed how photographers are always squatting or a little lower than the person they’re shooting. I feel that shooting people from the same level or especially from a downward angle makes them appear short and kind of broad at the top.

If you are planning to get into photography as a serious hobby, I highly suggest learning how to use Adobe Photoshop. I use it to correct/enhance my images that perhaps the camera did not capture (noise/graininess, exposure, color saturation, etc). In addition, I’ve been addicted to playing with artistic finishes (light direction, vignette edging, B/W, vintage filters, etc), thanks again to my friend Jen : )

As for cameras, if you are going to invest in a digital SLR, go with Canon. I hear they’re the best. My favorite functions to play with right now are shutter speed and macro. I’m love being able to play with shutter timing for cool night time shots and lighting effects. My next post will talk a little bit more about shutter speed because that’s exactly what I was practicing when taking the shots. The next thing on my wishlist, however, is a wide angle lens for cool aperture shots. Ahem (zazzle), my birthday is coming up soon, just saying!

Skin care

Some people have asked about my skin care regimen. First off all, thank you for the compliment, however my skin is mediocre at best. I have very dry skin with uneven skin tone (a result of not heeding mom’s advice about sunbathing with baby oil when I thought I was a beach girl back in high school). Anyway, this is what I do to protect my skin from further damage.

Moisturizer. I prefer a supple, slightly dewy complexion over a matted, powdered one so I believe in heavy moisturizing. I use Dermalogica Age Smart moisturizer morning and night. And I’ve also been known to use 100% vitamin E oil on my dry areas at times, though I’m not sure of the effectiveness (or non effectiveness for that matter). Vitamin E, is however, used to heal scars so when I play with my pimples (Eww, I know gross) I dab a little vitamin E oil on it so it won’t leave a nasty scar. Also a recent discovery, as a result of being pregnant is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Swivel stick. I use this on my face where I have discolorations, because supposedly this brand is the best for helping to even skin tone and reducing the look of over pigmentation and scars. I have a lot off little scars and since I’ve been using the swivel stick, I’ve notice that my dark spots are more easily covered by my concealer. Before, they would still be noticeable even with concealer.

Stay out of the sun. My advice only comes with age, as my mother always used to nag, “Cover up or you’ll regret laying out later in life”. I never listened. Of course, this proves to me that mother is always right. Now, I have extremely dry skin and I can’t ever seem to get at snowy white as my BF, Sara. Who unlike me, has been “afraid” of the sun since she was born! Now that I envy her porcelain skin, I realize it was phobia to be proud of. So to combat future sun damage I use Obagi daily moisturizer that contains 35 SPF (I put this on after I apply the Dermalogica Age Smart moisturizer). It’s non-scented, non-greasy and blends really well. And I always use sunblock all over my body when ever I know I’m going to be out in the sun for longer than 30 minutes. Even if ironically, I’m going to the beach to catch some sun.

Skin brighteners. The Japanese have been coveting milky white skin for ages and they have all kinds of interesting beauty products to help enhance the youthfulness of your skin. But one product I swear by is Dermalogica’s Daily Leave In Exfoliator. It comes in the form of a little product soaked swipe that you massage across your face. You don’t rinse it off, you just let it soak in. Followed by moisturizer, it leaves my skin looking dewy and brighter.

Exfoliation. Occasionally, I renew the first layer of my skin with Fresh’s Sugar exfoliator. I especially use it when I notice my skin starting to flake. This product works really well for sloughing off dead skin AND moisturizing. After I use this product, my face looks and feels super fresh and supple.

Chapstick. Nothing is worse to me than dry, chapped lips. It can make anyone look lifeless. When I’m not wearing bright lipstick, I always have chapstick on and I like also natural looking glosses.

Make-up technique?

I’ve been asked once or twice about my make-up routine/ technique so I thought it would be fun to document the stages of my application. A video would have been better, but I’m not tech-y yet. And I must state for the record that I am NOT a make-up artist so my techniques are only tailored to my own habits. Another warning, you will see me completely make-up free which is scary because my eyebrows are naturally almost non-existent and some creepy, close-up eye ball shots are to follow. Oh, and I did see the comment requesting Linh’s make-up techniques. I intend to make her do it very soon : )

1. Prep face with moisturizer. I use Dermalogica Age Smart Super Rich Repair + Obagi Daily Moisturizer w SPF 35.

2. Instead of foundation, which I think tends to get too cakey and matte for my taste, I use Dermalogica Tinted Moisturizer w SPF 15 (Light). I kind of like when there’s a hint of freckles showing : )

3. Apply concealer under the eyes using ring finger to buff and blend. Your ring finger is weaker than your pointer or middle finger so you won’t have the tendency tug on your delicate skin. I use MAC Studio Finish in NC35.

4. Apply a T-zone shine control product to oily zones (tip of nose and between eyebrows on brow bone). I love Clinique’s Pore Minimizer. It mattes the skin and reduces the appearance of pores, leaving the skin with a natural velvety soft look.

5. Apply powder all over face with powder brush. I use MAC Select Sheer Pressed in NC35. Using a brush allows the powder to gently settle on the skin. Using your powder pad is best for touching up when out and about.

6. Fill in eyebrows. For me, it’s important not to literally “draw in” your eyebrows with one heavy stroke from one end to the other. I try to mimic little strands of hair using small light strokes as I move from the inner brow to the outer edge. I use MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Lingering. Oh and I also refrain from over plucking, though it’s very tempting to just plow it all out. I like to see a some natural hair mixed in with the filler.

7. Apply highlight base just below eyebrow and all over lid. MAC’s Eye Shadow in Shroom is an excellent all-over-lid base.

8. Apply and blend a slightly-darker-than-your-skin-tone base on lower half of lid. For me, having Asian eyes, this sort of gives it a subtle illusion of depth and contour. In a way, de-puffing the eyelid. I use MAC Eye Shadow in Soba.

9. Blend in MAC’s Eyeshadow in Espresso from the outer corner of the eye to the almost the inner corner, placing emphasis in the crease (or where a crease would be). If you don’t have a prominent fold (like me), don’t try to create big one... that just looks silly. I make sure to blend Espresso in a little closer to the lash line for a more “natural fake” crease, if that makes sense.

10. Apply eyeliner. This part takes tons of practice. I have always loved the winged cat eye look and have been doing this for more than a decade so it’s like second nature for me to swoosh these on. I use a thin angled brush to apply MAC’s Fluid Line in Blacktrack. Whether you use pencil, liquid or cream base eyeliner, it’s important to get your eyeliner all the way up to your lash line.

11. Apply bottom eyeliner. I like to use MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Spiked (one shade darker than Lingering) because the tip is very fine so it looks more like a natural lash line. For daytime, I don’t really like heavy bottom eyeliner, unless I’m swollen (in which case I go heavier with EVERYTHING, especially step 9)

***This is where I used spend a majority of the time to curl my lashes and apply 3 coats of different kind of mascara only to achieve a slightly darker version of my short, straight asian lashes. Gone are those days of discouraging attempts to look more bright-eye-bushy-tailed, thanks to eyelash extensions. I go to Kristen Wood in Kapahulu. She has her own cute “boutique salon” and her quality of work is by far, the best in Hawaii.

12. Apply blush. Apply lightly, right on the top of your cheek bone where the sun would naturally give you rosy cheeks. You can always darken as you go, but it’s harder to remove if you apply too much at first. I like a sun kissed look so I use MAC Shimmer Blush in Sunbasque.

13. Apply highlighter on bridge of nose. I do this because I have very flat nose bridge (again, an Asian thing). I use MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl. It has a subtle iridescent sheen so when the light reflects off of it, it gives the illusion of “height”, aka a nose bridge. I occasionally use this on the top of my cheek bones too.

14. Apply gloss or lipstick and done!

Eyelashes?

I get a lot of questions about my lashes on my blog, in person and on FB. It’s no secret that they’re not mine! My natural lashes are as Asian as it gets.... straight, thin and bare there. So I get eye-lash extensions!!!

I go to Kristen Wood in Kapahulu. You can go here to see her yelp, but she is honestly the best in Hawaii. There are less expensive places, but I have heard bad reviews regarding the longevity, the comfort and the quality of the lash treatments. The initial set will run you about $300 + 3 hours of your time, but I’m telling you, the money and time are worth the investment. Ever since I got mine done in 2008, I have never missed a refill and I intend to have these on for life! The refills cost anywhere from $60-$80 and take about 1 1/2 hours. The reason Kristen doesn’t rush your appointment in 15 minutes like some places is because she is EXTREMELY thorough, almost as if you got a new set. She meticulously removes older lashes that are perhaps grown own too much or starting to droop. Plus you get to fall asleep in a super comfy bed. I never want to leave after my appointment. And no, these do not make your eyelashes fall off (especially the way kristen applies them). Did you know that your lashes naturally cycle off every 4-5 months anyway? And new ones always grow back. While you may notice when your lashes fall off more often, this does not mean that they’re shedding more that they normally would without lash extensions.

Night Life in Honoruru?

I’m a creature of habit so I tend to go where faces are familiar which limits my credibility as good source for night life advice, but I can tell you that I love the Edition hotel. I’ve only been a few times, but that place just exudes class. The bar in the lobby is my fav place to get your buzz going, then I hear Crazybox (adjacent to the lobby entrance) is where the all cool kids go to do what the cool kids do!

I also like bars and lounges in Downtown. 39 Hotel would be at the top of my list. It’s tiny, little (and treacherous) doorway is hidden between the entrances of Nextdoor and Bar 39. Humble in size, but the outdoor patio is pretty especially when there’s a clear night sky glittering with stars. Then I would suggest carefully making your way back down to Nextdoor. I like the mixed crowd there. A lot of other “clubs” in Honolulu tend to be Asian-washed, which is great because, duh I’m Asian too, but if you’ve seen my husband, you’ll know that I like white/mix eye candy! Hahaha! Another cool bar is Manifest, it’s directly across from Nextdoor. They play really good music and also a good mixed crowd! FYI, the best nights to make a trip downtown is Wednesdays and 1st Fridays if you want a scene.

Some other notable places, that I have not been too, but have heard are fun from friends are the Villa (Aloha Tower) and Apartment 3.

How to put music on your blog.

I embedded my music creating a playlist using the third party site playlist.com. From there I copied the html code for that playlist into a new gadget I added in the design part of blogger.com. For better instructions, go to this blogger help link to learn more and about other ways to add music. It’s very easy. In fact, if you’re a blogger using blogger.com, I find their blog “help center” located on the bottom part of your dashboard page, very useful for answering questions regarding customizing your page.

Baby News

And finally, I also wanted to say thank you to all the wonderful and sweet comments from friends and readers about my pregnancy. Shane and I are beyond ecstatic to meet our little princess. So far we have not started on the nursery yet, but I will probably document the before and after in the very near future. Right now, I’m 6 months and feeling as great as ever. My favorite part (besides the eating) is feeling her dance around in my stomach. She’s playful and responds to my teasing pokes and prods instantly. I’m so curious to see what our love has created and I can’t wait to be a mommy! Thank you again for all the advice and well wishes
